Abstract

Introduction: energydrinks are currentlywidelyconsumeddue to theirability to increaseresistance, performance and energy to performdailyactivities, they are associatedwith oral healthdue to theirhighcapacity to cause erosions, hypersensitivity and dental caries due to itscomponentssuch as caffeine and citricacid. Objective: describe theassociationbetweenenergydrinks and diseases in the oral cavity. Method: throughtheresearchapproachcarriedout in thisarticlethroughbibliographicreviewsusingthePubmed, Scielo, Dialnet, Google Scholardatabaseswithoutlimit of years in order to obtainstudiesaboutenergydrinks and theireffectsonthecavity oral. Development: itwaspossible to findseveralassociationsbetweentheconsumption of energydrinks, and theaffectation in oral health, especiallythatalterationdefinedonthehardtissues of thetooth, such as erosionor dental wear, withsome in vitro studiesitwaspossible to concludethatanenvironment and acidic pH, can harm and predisposethe mineral wear of dental tissueafterprolongedexposure, especially in cases wherethepresence of saliva decreases, sinceitstopsfulfillingitscleansing and buffering role. Conclusions: theexcessiveconsumption of energydrinks can influence oral health, itwasfound in severalbibliographicalreviewsthatthecomponentscontained in energydrinks can cause diseasesnotonly at the oral level, butalso at thesystemiclevel, one of thesesubstancesiscaffeine.
