Mental health of foreign medical students at the Salvador Allende Faculty, academic year 2023

Introduction: academic stress is very prevalent among university students in today's world, and the situation is even worse among those who study a career in Health Sciences.4 The Salvador Allende Faculty is no exception when it comes to academic demands in the training of its trainees. Objective: describe the mental health of the students in the faculty Salvador Allende, academic year 2023. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out to students of the faculty Salvador Allende in the period of July-September; a probabilistic sample of 119 students was selected. Data collection was carried out using an adapted GHQ-28 mental health questionnaire, which contained variables, according to the interests of the researchers, in addition to an informed consent form for each respondent. The information was processed in SPSS. Results: There was no significant difference in the sample regarding sex. Colombia, Ghana and Palestine were the nationalities that contributed the most numbers in the representative sample studied with 30, 3 %, 21 % and 20, 2 % respectively; Palestine was the country that presented the most numbers of psychological disorders. The most frequent disorders were anxiety and depression with 11.8%, and the least recorded disorder was isolated anxiety with a figure of 4, 2 %. Conclusions: The students of the faculty studied are characterized by maintaining normal mental health for the most part. Palestinian students are those who currently present the most psychological disorders.
