Introduction: currently the rate of malocclusions has increased worldwide at all ages, making orthodontics very necessary for its control and treatment. Objective: identify the effectiveness of the use of orthodontic treatments in patients between 17 and 27 years old. Method: an observational and qualitative-quantitative scientific research was carried out. 26 patients residing in sectors 1 and 2 of Santa Martha in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas are selected as the universe and sample. The survey and an information collection instrument were carried out, where important data for the study were evaluated. The average age was between 17 and 20 years old, the most chosen reason why they went to this treatment was aesthetics. Results: of a total of 26 people surveyed, 21 people were in the age range between 17 and 20 years, 81%. It was noted that treatment with braces was the most effective, especially in a period of use of 1 to 2 years. The majority of those interviewed confirmed improvements in their teeth. The findings reveal that the effectiveness of orthodontics at these ages is lower at early ages, however, it remains efficient at other ages. Conclusions: it was identified in the study that the respondents go for orthodontic treatment through the suggestion of family or friends, with aesthetic objectives, in a period of 1 or 2 years on a monthly basis, however, each month they suffer discomfort related to this treatment.
