Abstract

Introduction: Urinary infections are one of the most prevalent diseases in people over 65 years of age, especially at the hospital and geriatric level. Objective: identify risk factors associated with urinary tract infection in older adults belonging to the Pimampiro type B health center. Method: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in the Health Center of the city of Tulcán, belonging to the country of Ecuador in the year 2022, the universe was made up of 70 people over 65 years of age, they underwent a urinary tract infection prevalence study to select a sample of 45 people according to the following criteria. Results: 41 % of the older adults surveyed highlighted that they have had a urinary catheter or some urinary instrument placed at least twice in the last year, 56 % of those interviewed present urinary incontinence, if I identify diabetes mellitus as the main risk factor. risk for urinary tract infection with a 40 % incidence in the patients studied. Conclusions: the presence of diabetes mellitus, high body mass index, and frequent placement of a urinary catheter and urinary instrumentation were identified as the main risk factors in older adult patients with urinary tract infection.
