Risk factors associated with suicidal behavior in adults

Introduction: Suicidal behavior is defined as any act committed to the personal detriment of the person who executes it, regardless of the degree of lethality.
Objective: Identify the risk factors associated with suicidal behavior in adults belonging to the urban area of the Fomento municipality.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in the period between January 2021 and December 2022. The population was made up of 40 patients, a simple random sampling was carried out, selecting a sample of 31 adults exposed to risk factors. risk that they had suicide attempts. The variables were studied: age, sex, marital status, level of education and among the risk factors: depression, personality disorders, alcohol and other drug consumption, as well as stressful situations of daily life related to the work, society and home. The survey, observation and documentary analysis were used to collect the information. The results were presented through tables and the percentage calculation was used.
Results: Female sex, pre-university education level and ages between 19 and 29 years were most related to suicidal behavior. The majority were married and stressful situations in daily life were highlighted as the main risk factor (83.87%) followed by depression (35.48%).
Conclusions: The main risk factors associated with suicidal behavior in the studied population are stressful situations in daily life and depression.
