Guillain-Barre syndrome. A diagnostic and therapeutic update

Guillain-Barré syndrome is an acute inflammatory demyelinating demyelinating polyneuropathy of unknown origin characterized clinically by ascending flaccid paralysis accompanied by areflexia, variable sensory disturbances with increased protein in the cerebrospinal fluid. Most of the patients present an acute clinical progression of the disease, the antecedent of a previous infection is evidenced, generally respiratory or gastrointestinal, an important role of molecular mimicry in the pathophysiology has been observed. A bibliographic review was carried out with the aim of gathering updated information on the diagnosis and types of treatments most commonly used in this disease in order to compare their effectiveness. Treatment consists of a multidisciplinary approach, the main pillars being general medical care and immunological treatment. Generally, the prognosis of these patients is favorable, with complete recovery or minimal sequelae.
