Abstract

Introduction: Psychological aspects and psychological symptoms such as anxiety, stress, anguish, depression, etc., can trigger oral conditions such as bruxism since there are currently problems that persist, being excessive due to social pressure, activities, different events, even frequent routine matters. Objective: to determine the probability of developing dental loss due to bruxism in patients with anxiety disorders. Method: A systematic review on the relationship between dental loss and bruxism in patients with anxiety disorders was carried out. from a search in the following databases from 2012 to 2022: 1) MEDLINE through PubMed. Results: A total of 70 articles were reviewed, 60 articles were excluded based on the title, 2 based on the information found in the abstract and 2 after reading the full text articles. Finally, 6 studies that met the required objectives were included in the review. Conclusions: Bruxism by itself does not determine the loss of dental organs, but anxiety disorders can result in poor oral hygiene, which has indirect side effects on the periodontal health status of people who suffer from it.
