Review Policy

The submitted articles are subjected to a double-blind peer review process where neither the reviewer nor the author have any information that allows them to identify themselves. In all cases, this review process protects both the authors and the experts who review the manuscripts, maintaining special care with established ethical standards and avoiding conflicts of interest. The process will be carried out by reviewers external to the editors of the journal, and will be in charge of specialists in the corresponding topics.

For the management of the manuscripts, Gaceta Médica Estudiantil uses the 100% Open Journal System (OJS) for its management.

The journal bases its editorial processes on the ethical code of the Publication Ethics Committee (COPE).

The workflow is as follows:

The Director receives the articles and initially assesses their suitability for the magazine's themes and their quality, and in doubtful cases consults the management. This first selection of the articles by the management team is essential, since only this team has an overview of the objectives and the level of quality that the journal pursues, and over the years it has acquired enough experience and expertise to be able to screen accurately. This task is not left entirely in the hands of evaluators or reviewers.

The Director together with the main editor performs two more tasks: checking the originality of the text by searching the Net and using URKUND to detect text matches and taking care that the texts are anonymized in the properties of the Microsoft Word text editor.

This process does not exceed three (3) to seven (7) days. If the article is not rejected, it is assigned to a section editor so that he can manage the peer review process and the rest of the processes, assigning two reviewers.

The evaluators suggest improvements in the approved articles, so in many cases two (2) to four (4) rounds of evaluation take place, this lasts thirty (30) days. If, upon reaching the fourth round of review, the article has deficiencies, it is automatically rejected.

The Editorial Committee is in charge of deciding if the article is: Not publishable, Reevaluable, Publishable with modifications or Accept submission. This decision is final.

The section editor is in charge of accepting the article so that it goes to the editing section

Once the article has been definitively accepted, the editorial coordinator passes it on to the next editing stage, where the layout editor checks if the additional materials (graphics, illustrations, photos of the authors) are in good condition, with sufficient resolution to be published for a duration of ten (10) days. If they are not correct and it is not easy to fix or replace them, he requests them from the authors. The layout editor is subordinate to the publishing entity (Editorial de Ciencias Médicas) and is also in charge of making style corrections and final editing in accordance with the general policy of the publisher.

While an article is in the editing process, the authors can publish the accepted manuscripts on preprints-postprints servers.
