Relationship between nutritional factors and academic level in students of the Regional Autonomous University of Los Andes.

Abstract

Introduction: today poor nutrition is a serious problem that affects children and adolescents. This problem is affecting development, learning and even their immune system. Food of good quality and variety can satisfy the needs of the human body, keeping it in good shape. Objective: determine the influence of nutritional status on the academic level of students in the second parallel semester "A" of the dentistry degree. Method: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out at the Regional Autonomous University of Los Andes, in the state of Ambator, belonging to the country of Ecuador in the period from October 2022 to March 2023. The universe and sample were Consisting of 40 students belonging to the parallel dentistry career “A” of the second semester. Results: 12 students for 30% prepare their food steamed followed by 11 students for 27.5% who prefer fried foods. 33 students for 82.5% choose rice, pasta or beans as their main foods, another 25 students for 62.5% prefer meat, fish, chicken or seafood as their main food. Conclusions: with the methods used in this research, it is concluded that the students' diet does not impact their academic performance.
