Evaluation of dental knowledge about dental whitening in vital teeth in dental students

Introduction: it is evident that we find ourselves in an era where personal appearance is an important aspect of the individual's basic self-esteem needs to function socially. Objective: to evaluate the level of dental knowledge about dental whitening in vital teeth in dental students. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out at the Regional Autonomous University of Los Andes, Ibarra state, belonging to the country of Ecuador in 2016. The universe was made up of 179 ninth semester students belonging to the dentistry career of said institution. academic, the sample was given by 86 students, for data collection a survey was designed as an instrument based on the literature examined, being able to determine its validity and reliability; This survey is characterized by evaluating knowledge related to dental whitening, focusing on the three levels of knowledge. Result: the female sex affected 64% of the total number of individuals surveyed, individuals most frequently correspond to the age of 25 years with 25.6%, within the mechanism of action of carbamide peroxide, we can assure that it decomposes in hydrogen peroxide and urea indicating that the level of knowledge is regular (23%). Conclusions: Overall, the level of knowledge of the ninth semester students is a good level, in relation to the cognitive level, the level of Praxitive and affective knowledge corresponds to a Good level
