Selection of toothpastes in the population of the city of Ambato

Abstract

Introduction: the use of toothpaste prevents contributes to a decrease in the intensity of dental cavities and periodontal disease, there is also a significant decrease in cases of tooth loss at an early age and an increase in healthy teeth in children and adolescents. Objective: to describe the types of toothpaste suitable for the prevention of initial caries lesions. Method: an observational, descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in the city of Ambato, belonging to the country of Ecuador in the period of 2022, the universe was made up of the economically active population, the data was collected through a survey. the same one that took place outside the busiest mass sales points in the city. Results: of 100 % of those surveyed, 35 % have a neutral position in buying a product based on the price, 39, 5 % of the population almost always pays attention to the quality of the toothpaste they buy, however, 29, 3 % never pay attention to the ingredients in toothpaste, but 51.6% always pay attention to the brand of toothpaste they buy. Conclusions: the population interviewed are relatives of the children who use toothpaste, with a third level of education, who almost always pay attention to the quality of the toothpaste they buy, however, they never pay attention to the ingredients of the toothpaste.
