State of anxiety prior to the dental appointment in adolescents

Abstract

Introduction: dental anxiety is a phenomenon that influences oral health care and states and does not allow the patient to have an optimal oral treatment, according to data studied dental anxiety has prevalence rates of 4% to 23%, this It is an important factor to work on since otherwise it would not be possible to have an improvement in the patient's oral quality of life. Objective: describe anxiety in adolescents at the dental appointment in the "ALLURIQUÍN EDUCATIONAL UNIT". Method: a descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in adolescents belonging to the Alluriquín Educational Unit located in the parish of Alluriquín "Santo Domingo" in the year 2022, we worked with 37 adolescents. Results: it was determined that 25 adolescents for 69% of the respondents if they have suffered from a bad dental experience at the time of the procedures or consultations, young people do not feel uneasy in the days before their dental appointment with 22 adolescents for 59 %, 18 adolescents for 49% felt relaxed before dental treatment. Conclusions: it was determined that the majority of adolescents do not present a high level of anxiety or fear prior to the day before the appointment or while they are in the waiting room, instead they appear anxious when dental instruments are shown or have Lack of knowledge of the procedure to be performed.
